What Are Dental Implants?

Restoring badly compromised teeth is important to the general health and quality of the mouth. To allow Cranston, RI people to efficiently resolve extracted or missing teeth, our restorative dentistry team is very pleased to provide high-quality dental implants to achieve tooth restoration. A fixed implant uses a titanium screw that functions as a substitute tooth root. A specially crafted crown, bridge, or denture is used as the erupted portion of the lost tooth (or numerous teeth). If you experience missing teeth or require a tooth extraction, set up a visit at Dr. Matrullo & Associates and inquire about your oral implant options.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants are usually preferred for the vast range of wellness advantages they provide. As effective restorations, oral implants:

  • Produce improved chewing strength and durability of oral restorations
  • Do not make use of surrounding teeth to remain in position
  • Mimic normal teeth in capability and visual appeal
  • Function as a long-term option
  • Combine with the bone tissues to help preserve jawbone wellness and function
  • Encourage the adaptation of a diverse diet
  • Might help strengthen your confidence while talking and any time you smile

What Is the Treatment Process?

The methodology for fixed implants consists of the careful placement of the implant and the attachment of a natural-looking oral replacement (including partial pieces, crowns, and bridges). Once your mouth is ready for treatment, it will be dulled with oral anesthesia. Oral-conscious or IV techniques could also be used to allow you to feel more comfortable during your session. The fixed screw will be expertly secured within your jaw at a certain location and given time to merge with the bone through a phenomenon called osseointegration. When the implant area has completely healed (commonly several months later), Dr. Matrullo & Associates will attach a unique crown, denture, or bridge and check the alignment of your jaw.

What Can I Expect After Implant Placement?

Individuals who get this surgery could experience mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the impacted area. Prescribed or drugstore pain relievers and cool compresses could help address their post-surgery discomfort. When the metal post has integrated with the jaw and the custom crown, denture, or bridge is placed, it's essential to keep up with a good oral hygiene regimen with proper brushing and flossing habits. When individuals schedule with Dr. Matrullo & Associates for their twice-yearly dental visits, we will utilize fine dental instruments to disinfect their oral implants and check up on the state of their restorations.

I have been seeing Dr Kylie Zaccari for the past several months for replacement fillings and a new crown on one tooth. I am so happy with the excellent work and treatment she has given me! Dr Zaccari is excellent and provides painless procedures, a gentle touch, a very caring nature, and explains each and every step she is doing. I wish I had found her years ago! I love Dr Zaccari and the entire team at Matrullo Dentistry.

I want to thank Dr.Matrullo and associates for taking me on as a patient I personally want to thank Dr Zaccari and her assistants, from the first Good morning to the last have a good day they were friendly and professional. I told her what I wanted and she came up with a game plan for me. Every appointment she explained what she was going to do, and before I left she told me what she was going to do next, everything went as planned and there were no surprises. HATS OFF to her and her assistants. l would also like to thank the ladies who work hard behind the curtain, who always don't get enough credit for their hard work, the ones who check me in, call me to remind me of my appointments, and schedule my appointments. Genuine compassion, true expertise & professionalism has been my consistent experience for over 3 decades w/ Dr. Joe & his entire team. I’m very sincere when I share, they are truly the absolute BEST! Not once, not twice, not three times, etc., but absolutely, each & every time I’ve needed them for 30+ years, I’ve been accommodated & treated w/ nothing less than smiles, comfort, relief, resolution, & true compassion. Rhonda (Dr. Joe’s right hand medical assistant) & Dr. Joe have a combined & amazing way (that I don’t think they are consciously aware of), but of talking you thru & comforting you as they proceed w/ literally… Yikes!! Yes! A freaking surgical root/nerve involved dental procedure. Besides, the initial numbing needle (even that was minimal), Dr. Joe speaks to you every step of the way in a soothing, almost meditative voice w/ reassurance you are fine, telling you exactly what he’s doing, what you’ll feel (i.e. “pressure, but not sharp pain, & if you do, he & Rhonda are laser focused, watching you, attuned & listening). Rhonda is always at your side providing reassurance w/ a gentle touch of pressure on your shoulder to let you know she’s there & focused. She’s genuinely kind and admirable. Michelle (whom I personally believe, is the front office expert & true matriarch of the entire practice) w/ her expertise, warmth, & welcome is always a pleasure. Michele has superior insurance processing skills, & if you need her, she’s gotcha. If you feel horrible upon arrival, I promise she’ll make you feel better. I most recently, experienced horrific mouth/tooth pain, & thought I might have to cancel an upcoming, long overdue & previously paid in full vacation abroad. From the time I called Dr. Joe’s Office, until I had complete relief & total resolution, it was less than 2.5 hours (including my 45 minute commute to Dr. Joe’s office because I currently live on the CT line, but I’d never consider seeing anyone else). This particular day happened to be a half day for Dr. Joe & team. The office literally worked thru lunch time, & while I know they won’t admit it, I know they stayed late for me w/ no gripes whatsoever, no frowns, & from start to finish, nothing but genuine smiles, & compassion. I’m beyond grateful, & I feel so fortunate. If you don’t currently experience the same amazing care from your dental provider, I highly encourage you to reach out to Matrullo & Associates. With so much gratitude to Michele, Rhonda, & Dr. Joe, Deb Montanaro

Dr Matrullo has been my dentist of choice for years. The staff is friendly and professional. Dr Matrullo is a very busy man but when I need help he sees me asap. They are incredibly fast and make sure to match color on any fillings that are visible.

About Us
Can dental implants be used in combination with other dental procedures?

Yes, dental implants are often used in conjunction with other dental procedures to provide a comprehensive solution for oral health issues. For example, if you have multiple missing teeth, implants can be used to support a dental bridge or as anchor points for dentures. During your consultation at Dr. Matrullo & Associates, our restorative dentistry team will discuss your unique needs and can recommend a combination of treatments that would offer you the most beneficial results.

Is there a risk of dental implant failure?

While dental implant procedures have a high success rate, there's always a small risk of failure. Factors like poor oral hygiene, smoking, and certain medical conditions can affect the implant's ability to fuse with the jawbone, a process known as osseointegration. If you notice any signs of complications, such as persistent pain or loosening of the implant, it's important to consult with us immediately for an evaluation and to discuss the next steps.

Do dental implants require special cleaning or maintenance?

Dental implants do not require special cleaning, but maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for their longevity. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential. The implanted tooth itself can't get a cavity, but gum disease could still pose a risk to the surrounding tissue and bone. Our team will provide detailed instructions on how to care for your dental implants and ensure they last for many years to come.
If you have more questions or are considering dental implants, schedule an appointment at our dental clinic. We're committed to offering high-quality restorative options tailored to your individual needs.
